Interdenominational

Interdenominational ministries is a vibrant community in which students gather, ask questions of each other, and grow in faith together. Whether you have a devout faith life, or just a small sense of something deep within yourself, you are welcome here. Events revolve around worship, prayer, and music. Students serve as praise and worship leaders, worship assistants or liturgists, Bible study coordinators, or some other ministry to which you feel called.

Holy Cross employs a full-time chaplain to help nurture the spiritual needs of students from all Protestant faith backgrounds. Sam Lovett is a member of the United Church of Christ and has worked in and with many different religious traditions. You are encouraged to meet with Sam at Campion House to talk about your religious tradition and how we can incorporate your tradition more fully into interdenominational ministries at Holy Cross.

Student Testimonial

“I quickly found that the Jesuit tradition here is encouraging of other denominations and wants all students to grow in their personal faiths. I attend the interdenominational service because it’s a very welcoming community where I am able to worship and grow closer to God.” — Christine Bannon ’14

Interdenominational Service of Praise and Worship

The interdenominational service is led by Holy Cross students from various Protestant denominational backgrounds and the chaplain to Protestant Ministries, Sam Lovett. This service happens each Sunday at 4:30pm in McCooey Chapel, (check the worship calendar for the latest schedule information). We enjoy a time of Praise and Worship and the reading and hearing of the Word preached, followed by an informal time of fellowship immediately following the service.

Serve as a Lay Minister

Contact Sam Lovett if you are interested in embracing any of these lay ministries:

Worship Assistants
Several times during the year, worship assistant training is offered for those who would like to minister during the worship service. Trained lay ministers are invited to read Scriptures, offer prayers, or help serve Communion during our Sunday service.

Praise and Worship Team
Do you love to sing? We’ve got a place for you? The Praise and Worship Team meets weekly for rehearsal and sings in worship each Sunday.

Fellowship/Social Events
The fellowship/social events coordinator plans monthly birthday celebrations and community outings.

Bible Study

Tuesday evening at 7:30pm in Campion House, 208. Come together to read and study scripture, to consider God’s word in our world today, and to discern more clearly what God is saying to us right now. Come enjoy this meaningful fellowship. Light food and drink are part of this event.

Community Fellowship

The more we look, the more we see God and the intricacy of creation in all things. In this spirit, the interdenominational community gathers in various places to enjoy one another's company. Past events have included attending a play, fellowshipping with an area college group, movie night, and bowling. If you would like to participate or assist in the planning, please contact Sam Lovett.
